Casual clothing firm Tarrant Apparel Group has signed a licensing agreement with fashion designer Cynthia Rowley for the production, marketing and distribution of Cynthia Rowley-branded women's jeanswear.

Under the agreement, Tarrant subsidiary PBCR Inc has the exclusive right to distribute Cynthia Rowley jeanswear worldwide, except for Japan.

The licence will be valid for an initial three-year term but may be extended up to an initial 20 years subject to meeting certain financial requirements.

According to Tarrant CEO Gerard Guez, the agreement will allow Tarrant to capitalise on Cynthia Rowley's "international presence" and high industry profile.

"The combination of our expertise in jeanswear and Cynthia Rowley's signature vibrant style is an exciting opportunity to create unique, high quality and fashionable jeans," Guez said.

"We are excited to add the fresh, cosmopolitan look of the Cynthia Rowley brand to our portfolio and look forward to developing a mutually beneficial relationship."

The range will be available through department and specialty stores in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2004.
