Intimate apparel maker Tefron Ltd has reported year-on-year second-quarter and six-month sales increases, as the Sports Innovation Division generated growth and boosted sales for the company.

Second-quarter net sales increased 9.1 per cent to $49.8 million from sales of $45.6m in the second quarter of 2004, pushing up net income to $1.5m from $90,000 last year.

Six-month net sales rose 8.4 per cent to $102.4m compared to sales of $94.5m, while net income totalled $2.7m compared to $196,000 a year ago.

Yos Shiran, chief executive officer, commented: "As anticipated, our decrease in sales compared to the first quarter of this year is mainly attributed to lower sales in swimwear due to seasonality.

Shiran added: "Tefron Engineered for Performance technology has been a driving force in the active wear segment and is yielding positive results in terms of successful product launches and fruitful business relationships with key partners".

Tefron manufactures boutique-quality everyday seamless intimate apparel, active wear and swim wear sold throughout the world by name-brand marketers such as Victoria's Secret, Nike, The Gap, Banana Republic, Target, Warnaco/Calvin Klein, and Reebok.
