The sweat-suit fabric repels light rain and mud

Teijin Frontier, the fibre product converting company of Teijin Group, has developed a two-in-one sweat fabric that it says is both water-repellent and sweat-absorbent.

Launched as part of Teijin's DeltaPeak series, the new line was developed amid demand for extra-functional materials that are more stretchable, sweat-absorbent, quick-drying and lightweight. It offers a combination of water-repellency for outer surfaces and water-absorbency for inner surfaces.

The sweat-suit fabric repels light rain and mud as well as prevents sweat stains. It also tolerates repeated washing as a result of its kneaded water-repellent yarn and advanced micro-crimping.

Going forward, Teijin said it expects to combine its new fabric with other multifunctional materials for enhanced sportswear, and fashionwear. In addition, an eco-friendly version combined with fluorine-free water-repellent polyester fibre and recycled polyester fibre is now under development.

Annual sales are expected to reach 200,000 metres by the fiscal year ending March 2021.
