Textile and clothing manufacturers in Turkey could be set to reap the rewards of a series of successful overseas trips by members of the Association of Aegean Textiles and Ready-To-Wear Exporters.

Representatives from the group have just returned from Italy and the UK where they met with officials of various clothing firms in a bid to increase their foreign market share.

Executive board member, Perihan Tamik, told the Anadolu Agency: "A total of 32 clothing companies which are members of the association visited Italy and 171 foreign companies visited us.

"Our visit to Italy was more successful than we expected and we returned to Turkey with high hopes. Italian companies asked for samples of our products, which we will send them and we will start getting the results of this visit within six months."

She added that association members would visit Germany and the US in 2002 and meet with clothing companies and hinted that the quota on the exports of ready-made clothing from Turkey to the US could soon be lifted.
