Asian textile and clothing firms should cooperate more closely if they want to see off the threat posed by China, a panel of industry experts concluded on Thursday.

The companies should also set up a regional online platform if they want to boost their order books, according to the group of experts attending the Textile International Forum and Exhibition in Taiwan.

The China Post said officials from Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Indonesia and Vietnam also discussed the possibility of establishing an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system.

"Establishing an EDI network will increase international cooperation and chances for collaborative research while helping to reduce R&D costs," said professor Yao Hsing-chuan.
