A Chinese textile industry group has criticised attempts by US textile manufacturers to restrict Chinese textile imports.

An unnamed spokesman at the China National Textile Industry Council says the decision "isn't in line with WTO rules and commitments," and would endanger US-China trade relations.

Six US trade associations and a US labour union have filed a petition to restrict Chinese cotton trouser imports and say they plan to file more petitions covering an extra 13 items.

A spokesman for the China National Textile Industry Council added that the decision "isn't in line with WTO rules and commitments," and would endanger US-China trade relations.

The spokesman added that the US textile industry needs to reform itself and ensure global cooperation in order to evolve.
