ACIMIT, the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers, has elected Mr Paolo Banfi as its new chairman, succeeding Alberto M Sacchi.

Paolo Banfi is managing director and shareholder of Comez SpA and has been vice chairman of the Association since 2000.

ACIMIT represents more than 200 Italian textile machinery and accessory companies, who between them account for 85 per cent of Italy's textile machinery production. There are also 13 associated members, including trade groups, technical schools, technical magazines and research centres.

The Italian textile machinery sector has a turnover of approximately €2,900 million. In 2004, 76 per cent of this (€2,200 million) came from foreign markets.
