New orders for textiles and textile products fell by 4.2% in May in the euro area - which includes Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia and Finland - according to figures released today (23 July).

The data from Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, shows orders fell by 1.7% in the EU27 in May compared with April.

On an annual basis, manufacturing of textiles and textile products declined by 8.6% in the euro area and 6.4% in the EU27 in May 2008 compared with May 2007.
