A pay strike by nearly 11,000 textile workers has been called off after unions and employers' associations finally managed to reach an agreement.

The Textile, Knitting and Clothing Industry Workers' Union of Turkey (TEKSIF) and the Turkish Textile Employers' Association (TUTSIF) have settled on a pay rise ranging from 4% to 5% which will be added to workers' gross wages over a 31 month period.

Between 1 April 2007 and 31 October 2009, wages will be increased by 4% in the first six months and 5% in the second six months of the first year.

A rise of 4% will be applied in each half of the second year, and another 4% salary increase implemented in the first seven months of the third year.

Fringe benefits, such as bonuses, were also increased in proportion to the wage rise.
