A group of textile leaders are planning to visit Africa next month to look at ways of working with the region to increase their textile imports.

The delegation, led by Union Textile Minister Mr Kashiram Rana, will include representations from various textile export promotion councils, Mr Senthil Kumar, vice-chairman of the Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council, told The Hindu Business Line.

Indian textile entrepreneurs believe they could set up joint ventures with companies in African nations whose textile exports to the US and EU are exempt from import duties.

Mr Senthil Kumar said a one-day seminar, Focus Africa, is being held in Coimbatore on 16 August to discuss textile export opportunities in Africa. The seminar will be jointly organised by the PDEXCIL and the Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council.
