John Buell, the interim-CEO of US womenswear retailer The Limited is understood to have stepped down after serving in the role for just two months.

Buell, previously chief financial officer (CFO) for the fashion group, succeeded Diane Ellis on an interim basis after she left to join Chico's as president.

According to reports, Buell has left The Limited to join fashion and gift retailer Altar'd State as senior vice president and CFO. The company is said to be undertaking a search for a replacement for Ellis.

Buell served as CFO and chief administrative officer of The Limited from August 2014, before which, he held the sole role of finance chief for seven years.

Prior to this, Buell held a number of roles including CFO of Limited Brands and vice president of corporate planning and analysis for Sears.

Earlier this month, The Limited was understood to have notified the 248 staff employed at its New Albany head office they could lose their jobs amid a potential closure of the facility.
