Tierra has launched its first jacket made using bio-based materials only

Swedish outdoor apparel brand Tierra has unveiled its first jacket that uses 100% bio-based materials and is completely free from fossil-based materials.

The exterior fabric of the Deterra jacket is made using Fulgar's EVO high-tech yarn, a polyamide that is produced from castor oil, a totally renewable resource that does not require high amounts of water nor subtracts arable land for food uses. Ideal for sportswear, EVO by Fulgar is ultra-light, super stretch, extremely breathable, and has natural bacteriostatic properties.

The jacket's padding is made using wool from German sheep and Tencel yarn derived from wood cellulose. The buttons are made from corozo nut from the Tagua palm, and the hood fastens with a knot instead of a plastic stopper.

The jacket is available in a hooded or a shirt style. It has won the ISPO prize for Eco Achievement Apparel 2017/18 and the Sustainable Innovation in the Outdoors Industry Prize 2017, and will be available in retailers in Sweden and Germany this month.
