An improved economic environment has helped German clothing retailer Tom Tailor Group to report higher sales during the third quarter.

Group sales jumped 30.6% to EUR249m (US$333.3m) during the period, compared to EUR190.7m last year.

Wholesale revenue rose 9.8% to EUR90.2m, while Tom Tailor retail sales jumped 34% to EUR67.1m. Gross margin improved to 52.1% from 50.9% in the prior year.

"Tom Tailor Group has significantly gained momentum and recorded a sharp increase in sales and operating result," said chairman Dieter Holzer.

"The measures we have implemented at Bonita are beginning to bear fruit and their impact is becoming clearer each quarter."

The company acquired European clothing retailer Bonita in a EUR150m (US$187.3m) deal agreed in June 2012.

Subsequent to merging the two umbrella brands operationally, Holzer said the company now wants to further strengthen its equity base by means of a capital increase.
