Indian traders are battling against Chinese companies that they say have supplied damaged silk to approximately 12 Indian importers.

The Silk Importers & Exporters Association of India and Indian Silk Export Promotion Council say that the companies, Zeijiang Cathay International Co Ltd and Zhejiang G&F Foreign Trading Co Ltd, shipped damaged fabric between December 2004 and May 2005.

SIEAI p resident P Jacob Sameul said in a letter to India's Textile Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela that fabric worth INR 12O million was totally spoilt by fungus and black spots due to moisture.

Private negotiations by Indian companies with the suppliers involved are said to have proved fruitless.
