India's Reliance Group has appointed a restructuring expert at its polyester fibres company Trevira GmbH, after earlier efforts to turn the business around failed to have the desired effect.

Trevira's CEO Uwe Wöhner has also departed, after just over a year in the post.

New managing director Elke Bäuerle has worked for lawyer Schultze & Braun, which last year managed to restructure bankrupt German fashion chain Sinn Leffers.

Trevira, which makes branded polyester fibres and filament yarns for end-uses including apparel, has seen sales slump as a result of the global economic crisis.

Admitting that "considerable cut-backs" are necessary, Mrs Bäuerle said Trevira has a "sound and profitable core...good products and is fundamentally competitive."
