Apparel manufacturing group Tristar has recommenced production at five of its factories.

Tristar, the largest company of it kind in Sri Lanka, shut down production at its Badulla, Hasalaka, Buttala, Bandarawela and Welimada facilities last year.

The company also plans to reopen its Kamburupitiya and Ambalantota facilities before the end of the year, bringing its country-wide total to 27 factories employing of a workforce of about 18,000 people.

"Business has started looking brighter for the group after experiencing financial and operational constraints due to withdrawal of quotas, market turbulence and high interest rates," chairman Kumar Dewapura said.

"We have been able to make a satisfactory turnaround in production and increased revenue this year."
