The event will look at the current landscape for leather fashion, footwear and accessories

The challenges and opportunities faced by the leather fashion, footwear and accessories sector will be the focus of an industry conference set to take place in the UK next month.

Organised by Association of Suppliers to the British Clothing Industry (ASBCI), ‘Head to toe – a focus on leather fashion, footwear and accessories’ will cover all aspects of leather products.

As consumer confidence and a dramatic increase in online shopping drive a recovery in the leather clothing, footwear and accessories sectors, retailers, brands and their suppliers are looking for more innovative and cost-efficient means of designing, sourcing, producing, marketing and delivering products to an increasingly complex and demanding global population.

As well as assessing the current landscape and challenges for leather products, the conference will address issues such as commercial 3D printing; using consumer feedback to inform development; leather sourcing and sustainability; sizing and fit for footwear; advancements in PLM for leather-based products; CSR and ethical best practice; and capitalising on craft and heritage.

Speakers include Stephen Taylor, senior supply chain manager at consultancy firm Kurt Salmon; Amanda Michel, director at Leather Wise; Andrew Hudson, global technical manager of footwear and leather at SGS U; John Saunders, chairman of the British Footwear Association; and Laura Mylius-Prou, marketing project manager for fashion and apparel at Lectra.

They will be joined by Laura West, secretary at the Society of Shoe Fitters, Danielle Needham, representing UK value fashion and homewares retailer Matalan; Stuart Eggleton, CEO of John Pound; Jonathan Church, managing director at Cheaney; Reg Hankey, CEO of Pittards; Simon Yarwood from World Trades Publishing; and Bryan Oknyansky at Shoes by Bryan.

The event will take place at the Northampton Marriott Hotel on 4 November. Click here to contact Garry Knox for more information or to book a place at the conference.
