Football brand Umbro looks to be outrunning its branded sales from last year as it cashes in on priority markets.

Umbro chairman Nigel Doughty said: "The brand continues to make good progress internationally with sales in China, USA and Latin America significantly ahead of last year.

"Branded sales in the UK are in line with expectations and for the full year are expected to be ahead of 2006."

The company said that, as previously indicated, licensed sales for the year would come in below the levels of last year due to the lack of a major tournament, but were in line with expectations.

Earlier this month, the company announced a 49% equity investment in its largest licensee Noel Soccer in France and extended its sponsorship agreement with French football club Olympique Lyonnais to 2013.

The company's interim results will be announced on 6 September this year.
