Sportswear maker Umbro has recorded a steep growth in yearly sales and profits, spurred on by high demand for its replica England kits during the Euro 2004 football championships.

The company said last year's profits grew threefold to £15.4 million, while turnover increased to £140.4.
Re-establishing the brand in the US was said to be progressing particularly well after Umbro signed a distribution agreement with sports merchandise retailer Foot Locker.

Umbro yesterday also signed a four-year sponsorship agreement to distribute replica kits for Scottish football club Rangers.
