Performance apparel maker Under Armour has struck its first kit deal for a professional soccer team, supplying German league club Hannover 96.

The partnership will start next year and continue to the 2010/11 season, incorporating all technical apparel and accessories for game day and training as well as arena advertising and promotional rights for Under Armour.

The new kit will be available at the Hannover 96 arena shop as well as at sports retailers in Germany.

Under Armour has been marketing its products in Germany since 2006, as a baselayer outfitter in German professional soccer, handball and ice hockey, and is sold in 200 locations there.

"This deal was worked on for several months and is budgeted within Under Armour's 12-13% annual global marketing spend," said Wayne Marino, Under Armour's executive vice president/CFO.

"We see it as another authentic anchor point in the brand's growth in Europe."

Last week Under Armour also announced a sponsorship deal with the Wales rugby team, underlining its strategy to expand in Europe.
