Yarn producer Unifi Inc has announced the closure of its central distribution centre in Mayodan, North Carolina.

Unifi is transferring operations from the centre to its warehouse and logistics facilities in Yadkinville, North Carolina.

This change, which is expected to be completed by December, will eliminate 19 positions and will relocate approximately 60 positions to Yadkinville.

Bill Lowe, chief operating officer and chief financial officer for Unifi, commented: "Our recent success in reducing inventories allows us to centralise and maximise the overall efficiency of our warehousing and logistics operations, which will be accomplished with little cost to the organization.

"We will continue to look for ways to maximize our efficiencies, while at the same time staying focused on profitable growth initiatives."

Unifi Inc is a diversified producer and processor of multi-filament polyester and nylon textured yarns and related raw materials.
