Textured yarn maker Unifi Inc is due to open its new El Salvador facility at the beginning of next month, in a move that will provide a base for customers sourcing from the Central American region.

The 120,000 square foot Unifi Central America Ltda DE CV plant will provide textured and twisted polyester filament yarns for a range of end-uses.

"The expansion of Unifi manufacturing operations into Central America will allow the company to better support and service our customers in the region," said Roger Berrier, executive vice president for Unifi.

The manufacturing plant will have eight texturing machines and 27 twisting machines, and will employ approximately 175 people. Located at Zona Franca, American Industrial Park, El Salvador, it will be opened on 2 December 2010.
