Unifi Inc, the world's largest producer and processor of textured yarns, is to lose 116 jobs at its plants in North Carolina.

According to chief executive Brian Parke, the cuts have been forced by the weak economy and a downturn in volumes.

just-style.com has been informed that only 11 of the positions are salaried. The remainder are wage positions, and 79 are currently vacant due to curtailments. The remaining 26 wage positions will become vacant over the next two to three months due to natural attrition and will not be refilled.
