Uniqlo, Japan's fastest-growing retailer, is to set up shop at Wimbledon south London in the first phase of its UK expansion plans. More deals are on the cards, with leases about to be signed for more London-based stores on Brompton Road, Knightsbridge and Oxford Street.

Japan's fastest growing retailer plans to use the sites as a bridgehead for rapid expansion into the UK with an aggressive target of 50 UK outlets.

Founded by Tadashi Yanai just four years ago, Uniqlo has grown at a phenomenal rate in Japan, where it now has 487 branches. The format has bucked the recessionary trend in Japan by focusing on well-merchandised fashion at affordable prices.
