Specialty retailer of large-size women's fashion and footwear, United Retail Group Inc, on Monday reported an 11 per cent slide in March same-store sales as it was hit by the Easter shift.

The New Jersey-based operator of 550 stores said total sales for the month fell to $39.6 million from $44.6m last year, with total sales for the fiscal year to date down to $66.6m from $75.7m.

It separately announced that chairman, president and CEO, Raphael Benaroya, had reassumed direct responsibility for the Avenue retail store division, effective immediately.

It also announced the departure of Susan Falk, who previously served as president of the retail division, for personal reasons. It added it does not intend to fill this position.

Mr Benaroya commented: "The recently announced structural and organisational changes in the company will enable me to focus entirely on the core Avenue retail store business. We thank Susan for her service and wish her well."
