An updated list tracking all regulated chemicals that go into apparel and footwear products has just been published by The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA).

The latest version of the global Restricted Substances List also incorporates new safety standards from the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA), which earlier this month introduced new lead limits.

"For the US apparel and footwear industry to remain globally competitive, especially in a down market, our supply chain must be as efficient as possible," said AAFA president and CEO Kevin Burke.

"This list has quickly emerged as an industry must-have."

The RSL, which is updated every six months and is now in its fifth edition, identifies the strictest international standard that applies to chemicals used in apparel and footwear, along with updated test methods, legal citations, and information on other jurisdictions.

The list, together with a growing set of other chemical management tools, can be downloaded for free at the AAFA website.
