First half turnover at Belgian underwear company Van de Velde was "slightly negative to flat" the company said today (30 April).

It said precise turnover would be determined by back-orders for May and June, and that initial indicators for the second half of 2009 provide a picture similar to the first.

The company's closure of a Hungarian facility is on schedule, the statement said.

Van de Velde said the financial crisis was having most impact on its Eurocorset subsidiary, where sales for the second half of 2009 will be lower than last year.

The company aims for Eurocorset to contribute positively to EBITDA from the first half of 2010 though.

The company added that it was committed to current strategy in spite of the tough economic conditions, saying improvements in operational efficiency and growth opportunities will be pursued.
