Lingerie maker Van de Velde NV is doubling its production capacity in Tunisia with a second production unit due to open in April 2006.

The €2.5 million plant is in the town of Kondar, located around 160 km from Tunis, the capital of Tunisia. It will employ 400 people.

Van de Velde, which makes the Marie Jo and Prima Donna lingerie brands, currently sources around half of its production from China, with the remaining 25 per cent in Hungary, 20 per cent in Tunisia and 5 per cent in Belgium. The design, marketing and sales functions are also located in Belgium.
