VF Corporation announced that its VF Imagewear division has reached an agreement in principle with the National Football League to become the exclusive supplier of certain product categories of licensed NFL apparel products in mid-tier department and mass stores.

The five-year agreement, which commences in April of 2002, calls for VF Imagewear to be the sole supplier of men's t-shirts, fleece, fashion knits, woven tops and bottoms, sweaters and vests as well as t-shirts and a broad array of fleece products.

"VF Imagewear has had a close, longstanding relationship with the NFL and this agreement is a natural extension of this successful partnership," said Mackey J. McDonald, chairman and CEO of VF Corporation. "Working even more closely together on specific product categories will ensure that NFL fans get terrific products and our retail partners get outstanding service."

He noted that as a result of the agreement, VF Imagewear expects to double its sales volume of NFL licensed products. Sales and marketing will continue to be managed from VF Imagewear's Tampa, Florida, facility.

Roger Goodell, NFL executive vice president of business, properties, and club services, said: "We believe the NFL brand will be further strengthened by concentrating our apparel licensing efforts on fewer, stronger suppliers like VF that have the strength to manage and service a complex and fast-changing mix of products."
