US clothing group VF Corporation has confirmed reports that it will close a jeans factory in Poland at the cost of 1,100 jobs.

In an emailed statement to just-style, VF said it was to close its denim manufacturing plant in Lodz during the first quarter of next year.

Noël Kyndt, vice president of operations, VF Jeanswear International, said: "This move is being driven by lower variable demand for jeanswear production relative to VF’s fixed jeanswear and manufacturing capacity and the need to stay competitive with other apparel companies."

The company said it will consult with employee representatives on severance payments and finding other jobs following the closure.

just-style first reported the closure last week, citing local reports at the time.
