Chinese Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan has urged the country's textile sector to make efforts to improve its competitive edge.

Addressing conference delegates, Zeng said the industry needs to quicken the pace of industrial upgrades and restructuring and to develop domestic brands.

Zeng also said progress was needed on saving energy and protecting the environment but congratulated the textile sector for its role in creating jobs, boosting exports and enhancing living standards.

The industry must now switch its growth focus from pursuit of scale and capacity to a better level of efficiency, the VP added.
