Trade chiefs from Vietnam on Thursday said they are looking at utilising the Philippines' unused textile and garment quotas for Europe.

Officials from Hanoi recently asked their counterparts during high-level talks in the Philippines if they could use the spare quota for this year and next.

"We conveyed to them that we will consider this request but we will exercise the necessary flexibilities provided in the ASEAN-European Union Quota Swap Arrangement," Philippine Trade and Industry Secretary Thomas Aquino told the Manila Bulletin.

"The swap arrangement, however, is constrained by the 10 per cent ceiling on the quota level that can be transferred to the receiving ASEAN country."

The paper added Vietnam has in the past benefited from transfers of the Philippines' spare garment and textile quotas for Europe.
