The US is the main absorber of Vietnam's garment and textile product

Vietnam's textile and apparel exports during August grew 2.2% to US$3.37bn year-on-year according to new data from customs officials.

Total apparel and textile exports during the first eight months of the year reached US$21.77bn, up 10.2% year-on-year.

The General Department of Customs said the US continued to be the largest textile and apparel importer for the eight months to August, importing US$9.95bn worth of apparel and textiles during the period, up 9.3% year-on-year.

Japan followed, with its imports from Vietnam up 3.4% to US$2.55bn. In third place was the EU, with imports from Vietnam up 4.9% to US$2.89bn.

The South Korean market absorbed US$2.2bn worth of textile and apparel exports from Vietnam, up 4.9%; and China US$1.07bn, up 11.9% year-on-year.

Exports of footwear over the eight-month period rose 12.8% to US$93bn.

The US and the EU were the biggest markets for footwear. Overall, the value of footwear exports to the two main markets reached $6.7bn, accounting for 64.2% of the country's total export turnover of this commodity group.
