The sixth edition of a guide designed to help employers, employees, international buyers, and other stakeholders better understand the obligations and rights stipulated by Vietnamese labour law has been published.

The original 'Guide to Vietnamese Labour Law for the Garment Industry' was first published in June 2011 by Better Work Vietnam, working in collaboration with the country's Ministry of Labor Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA).

Better Work – a collaboration between the United Nations' ILO and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) – brings together all levels of the garment industry to improve working conditions and boost the competitiveness of businesses. Currently active in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Haiti, Indonesia, Jordan, Nicaragua and Vietnam, with a pilot in Egypt, the programme aims to create lasting change through assessments, training, advocacy and research.

Now, the sixth edition of the guide includes updates following recent changes in Vietnamese laws pertaining to trade union activity, the collective bargaining process, discrimination and occupational safety and health (OSH), as reflected in newly-adopted documents and circulars. Better Work Vietnam has been advising and assessing enterprises on compliance to these new regulations.

Published last month, the 'Guide to Vietnamese Labour Law for the Garment Industry'  is available as an easy to search, download and print online resource, which will be regularly updated as additional guidance is provided by MOLISA.

The guide is also available in Vietnamese, and Better Work's Vietnam Labour Law Guide for smartphone has also been updated. The new version contains all the previous features of the first edition, together with all the latest updates in the Vietnamese Labour Law. The app retains its user-friendly navigation, allowing users to bookmark and share selected information.

It is available for free on the App Store and Google Play.
