Lycos today announced a joint effort with its fine arts auction collaborator, Skinner, Inc, one of the US's largest auction houses, to conduct a month-long couture event.

It will be highlighted by a live TV webcast at 5:00pm EST, September 14, of the couture auction at Skinner's Boston gallery. Bidders can pre-register online until September 7, and then participate in the live auction by phone as they monitor the action live from the auction floor via the webcast.

Now through the month of September, separate online-only auctions at provide an opportunity for fashion collectors to bid on important vintage clothing from some of the 20th century's most important designers, including Gucci, Pucci, Fiorrucci, and more. Handbags, hats, dresses, capes, jewelry and luggage are just a few of the categories covered in the different sales of diverse pieces of fashion history.

Fashion Plates, a special auction to benefit Community Servings, a charity that provides meals for individuals and families ill with AIDS, will include nearly 40 lots of celebrity clothing from luminaries ranging from Hollywood stars to corporate titans. A costume worn by Marisa Tomei in an American Repertory Theater Production of "We Won't Pay" will be auctioned, as will Rock Hudson's black and blue suit from Universal International's 1955 feature "Captain Lightfoot." Helen Hunt and Chloe Sevigny donated items worn to high profile events to benefit the cause.
