Luxury retailer Barneys New York has appointed Daniella Vitale as its new chief merchant and executive vice president, responsible for all women’s and operations.

Vitale, who takes up the position tomorrow (1 December), will be responsible for all merchandising, business development and strategy, reporting to company CEO Mark Lee.

“Daniella is an outstanding leader and merchant, and brings with her a lucrative 20-year career in the luxury retail space,” said Lee.

“She will bring our women’s and total web business to even greater prominence.”

Vitale has spent more than ten years with Gucci, most recently as president of the Americas, and has previously worked for Giorgio Armani and Salvatore Ferragamo.

Meanwhile, Barneys said executive vice president/GMM women’s merchandising Judy Collinson, and senior vice president/women’s fashion director Julie Gilhart, had both left the company.

Vitale has launched a search for a new women’s fashion director, the company added.
