French group Vivarte, which has an extensive portfolio of clothing and footwear retail brands, is set to appoint Antoine Metzger to the post of CEO.

He will succeed Georges Plassat who is to take over as chairman and CEO of supermarket giant Carrefour in April, replacing Lars Olofsson.

Metzger is Vivarte's general secretary and the group's number two. He joined Vivarte in 2000 and one of his previous posts was financial director of PPR home shopping business, Redcats.

"Antoine Metzger has been a driving force in the development of the group over the past 12 years," Vivarte said.

Vivarte's brands include André, Besson, Caroll, Chevignon, Kookaï, Naf Naf, San Marina and La Halle. Present in 40 countries, with 4,000 stores and employing 22,000 staff, the group has an anual turnover of around EUR 3.2bn (US$5.1bn).
