Two of Japan's top lingerie brands, Wacoal Holdings Corp and Gunze, are expanding their Asian store networks to meet demand for a rising number of middle class Asian women intent on buying fine lingerie.

China in particular is seeing huge investment from Japanese makers.

Wacoal, which has 405 stores in department stores and other locations in China, aims for 800 stores in that market by 2012.

Gunze, meanwhile, has around 220 Asian locations, but will increase that number to around 350 by the end of 2010, focusing on Chengdu, Chongqing, and other growth centers in inland China. There are also plans afoot for stores in other Asian counties such as Thailand and Vietnam.
