Wal-Mart has made a number of management changes

US retail giant Wal-Mart Stores has made a number of management changes including the promotion of Judith McKenna to chief operating officer for the group's US division.

McKenna succeeds Gisel Ruiz, who has been appointed executive vice president of Wal-Mart's international people division.

She will take up the role with immediate effect and will continue to report directly to Wal-Mart US CEO Greg Foran. Ruiz will also take up the role with immediate effect and will report to Wal-Mart international president and CEO, David Cheesewright.

"One of the great things about Wal-Mart is the depth and breadth of talent at all levels of our organisation," said Foran. "Around the globe, we have some of the best leaders in retail because of our focus on developing talent and our commitment to creating opportunities for diverse experiences. The announcements we're making today are examples of just that."
