Clothing maker Perry Ellis International has named David Ward as the new managing director for Perry Ellis Europe, effective yesterday (23 June).

Ward brings to the role extensive experience with premium brands in the European market.

Prior to his appointment he was the global sales director at Fred Perry in the UK and also held key positions at Quiksilver in Biarritz, and Oakley in Paris, France, Perry Ellis said.

"At Perry Ellis International, we see enormous potential in the European market and anticipate the expansion of our leading portfolio of brands into the continent," said George Feldenkreis, chairman and CEO.

"We welcome David to the Perry Ellis family and are very excited about the experience and knowledge that he brings with regard to the European market."

The apparel operator had announced the retirement of its former European managing director, Peter Abbiss, on 8 May.

Last month Perry Ellis Europe also made several new management appointments including a new European sales director, head of product development and retail operations manager.

"Perry Ellis International is a company backed by tremendous brand strength and a renowned logistical and operational platform within the US - a key player which is well respected amongst retail partners," Ward said.

His appointment is part of a longer-term integration process to develop Perry Ellis Europe into a multi-stringed business with a spread of brands.

Original Penguin and Farah are both well established, and the company wants to strengthen these brands whilst developing others within the UK and Europe.
