Leading designer and producer of wedding apparel, JLM Couture Inc, on Tuesday posted a rise in first quarter net profit to $200,000 from $168,000 in the year-ago period on the back of higher sales.

The New York-based company, whose lines include Lazaro and Occasions, said revenue for the 13 weeks to January 31 climbed 22 per cent to $5.5 million from $4.5m in 2002.

President and CEO, Joseph Murphy, said "all of the company's bridal and bridesmaids lines continue to show sales growth and (it) anticipates that this growth should continue through the balance of the fiscal year".
