West Marine, Inc today reported that net sales for the four weeks ended July 28, 2001 were $58.1m, a 5.9 per cent increase from net sales of $54.9m for the same period a year ago. Comparable store net sales for the four weeks ended July 28, 2001 increased 4.5 per cent from the same period a year ago.

Net sales for the thirty weeks ended July 28, 2001 were $336.1m, no change from the same period a year ago. Comparable store net sales for the latest thirty weeks decreased 1.2 per cent compared to the same period a year ago.

John Edmondson, president and CEO of West Marine, stated, "We are very pleased with our 2001 July sales results, especially since July was our strongest comp sales month last year at 9.3 per cent. Obviously, we are off to a very good start in the third quarter."

West Marine, Inc is the USA's largest specialty retailer of boating supplies and apparel, with 240 stores in 38 states and Puerto Rico, and more than $500m in annual sales.
