South African retail group Woolworths Holdings has seen its clothing sales in the region grow 11% during the first 20 weeks of the 2014 financial year.

The company said the figures include Country Road's South African sales. Comparable store sales grew by 9.4%. Retail space, including stores in the rest of Africa, increased 4.6%, net of closures, year-on-year.

General merchandise sales were up 5.5% and rose by 3.9% in comparable stores, Woolworths said today (20 November). 

Sales in Australia and New Zealand, including the Witchery group, increased 51% in Australian dollar terms. Sales in comparable stores rose 7.1% and net space, excluding the Witchery group acquisition, climbed 1.9%.
