A six-million square foot plot of land has been allotted for the Dubai Textile City (DTC) project in Warsan, according to the Gulf News newspaper.

Construction on the project, the paper said, is scheduled to begin later this month with a completion date of mid-2005.

Investments in DTC, it said, have reached more than Dh200 million since the project was first announced two years ago.

Texmans textile trading group vice-chairman Ashok Sawlani said the delay was due to finding a suitable home for the project.

"We firmly believe that DTC is just what is required for the local textile trade - valued at Dh8 billion or so annually - into the new millennium and (will) help us with gaining access to new markets," he commented.
