Cambodia's National Garment Workers Federation (NGWF) is calling for the Hameen Sportswear factory in Bangladesh to re-open after 400 workers were laid off when it closed earlier this month.

According to NGWF, the factory in Tejgaon, Dhaka, which supplies Swedish fashion giant H&M, was "illegally" shut on 13 October. Despite requesting the factory to re-open, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Labour "remain silent".

On Tuesday, NGWF president Amirul Haque Amin led a rally in front of the National Press Club, Dhaka. Following this, more than 400 garment workers rallied to the Bangladesh Secretariat.
