Israeli nylon yarn maker Nilit has bought the US operations of Nylstar Inc, including its nylon 6.6 plant in Martinsville, Virginia as part of moves to expand its growth in North America.

The deal now makes Nilit one of the world's largest nylon 6.6 producers for the apparel industry, and adds capacity to a global production network that includes a state-of-the-art facility in China that was opened last year.

"Having the Martinsville facility as part of the Nilit network will expand our ability to service our growing North American customer base, our US partners and as well as other customers around the world," adds Arie Gottlieb, Nilit's general manager.

The Nylstar product line includes nylon yarns in a broad range of filament counts, lustres and cross-section type, and will expand Nilit's portfolio of branded performance yarns for intimate apparel, bodywear, legwear and activewear.

As part of the acquisition, Nilit has appointed former Nylstar president, Basil B (Sonny) Walker as president of the new Nilit US unit.
