Gucci Group NV chairman and chief executive, Domenico de Sole, revealed on Wednesday that sales at French fashion house Yves Saint Laurent in New York City have more than doubled since the terrorist attacks on September 11.

Although he declined to give exact sales figures during his address to delegates at a luxury goods conference in Paris, de Sole said sales had risen by at least 100 per cent and that YSL should break even on an operating level in 2004.

He added that despite the luxury goods industry being hit hard by the global economic slowdown, YSL has this year increased its spending on advertising.
