Fashion chain Zara has opened its first store in the Philippines in capital Manila. The store is located in Power-Plant-Rockwell, one of the country's key commercial areas.

Zara plans to open another retail location during the first few months of 2006 in Glorieta Shopping Centre, also in Manila.

Zara, which is part of retail group Inditex, is expanding to the Philippines in partnership with domestic company Stores Specialists Inc.

The expansion is part of Inditex's wider growth strategy for the Asian-Pacific area, in which it now operates 28 Zara stores, including its latest in the Philippines, 17 in Japan, three in Malaysia, two in Hong Kong and another two in Indonesia.
