• The Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Foundation has boosted its certification standards.
  • Chemical formulations reviewed by Bluesign will be recognised as having Level 3 conformance and will be listed on the ZDHC Gateway – Chemical Module.
  • Bluesign Technologies has become the first Level 3 accepted MRSL conformance certifier to be recognised.

Bluesign Technologies has become the first Level 3 accepted certifier for MRSL conformance in the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Gateway chemical module.

The move means ZDHC now cooperates with eight certifiers, which all indicate conformance to the ZDHC Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (ZDHC MRSL) on different levels.

Since 2000, Bluesign has used a scientific chemical assessment to evaluate the hazards of 20,000 chemical formulations creating the first and most comprehensive positive list. From this assessment, over 11,000 commercially available chemical products have been approved to produce textiles and leather and collectively make up the Bluesign Bluefinder.

It has also banned over 600 products based on both the precautionary principle and legal bans as well as adhering to the industry's Manufacturing Restricted Substance Lists (MRSL) and Restricted Substance Lists (RSL).

Last week, Bluesign announced the application has been extended to incorporate those used for leather and footwear.
