Leading Turkish footwear manufacturer and retailer, Ziylan Ayakkabi, announced on Tuesday that it will start marketing products for sports shoes giant Nike next year.

Ziylan recently set aside $1 million for the first phase of its plans to set up a chain of 50 stores by 2006. It currently has eight stores in Istanbul and will open two more in 2002.

The firm, which employs more than 1,000 people and makes 2.5 million pairs of shoes a year, set up a marketing company named Flo Magazacilik Hizmetleri ve Pazarlama in order to sell Ziylan products in the country, and markets its products under the Kinetix brand name.
